3. On the basis of its
deliberations, as recorded in the summary records of its plenary meetings
and in the summary records of the decisions of its main committees, the
Conference prepared and opened for signature a Convention on Road Traffic
and a Convention on Road Signs and Signals.
CHAPTER
4 Article 41
Validly of International Driving Permit
(IDP) 1. Contracting Parties shall recognize an IDP as
valid for driving in their territories a vehicle coming within the
categories covered by the state-issued driver license, provided that the
state-issued driver license is still valid and that it was issued by
another Contracting Party or by an Association duly empowered thereto by
such other Contracting Party. 2. An IDP shall be issued only to the
holder of a state-issued driver license for the issue of which the minimum
conditions laid down in this Convention have been fulfilled. It shall not
be valid after the expiry of the corresponding state-issued driver
license, the number of which shall be entered in the IDP.
Article 42
Suspension of validity of International Driving Permit
(IDP) 1. Contracting Parties may withdraw from a driver
the right to use his IDP in their territories if he commits in their
territories a breach of their regulations rendering him liable under their
legislations to the forfeiter of his permit. In such a case the
withdrawing the right to use the permit may : (a) the holder resides in
the territory, (b) the categories in IDP and in the state-issued driving
license are different (c) the state-issued driver's license or IDP is
expired (d) the number of the state-issued driver license is not shown in
IDP (e) transportation of hazardous materials is not allowed in the
territories and so on.
Categories of vehicles for which the permit is valid:
(A) Motor cycles
(B) Motor vehicles, other than those in category A ,
having a permissible maximum weight not exceeding 3,500 kg and not more
than eight seats in addition to the drive seat
(C) Motor vehicles used for the carriage of goods and whose
permissible maximum weight exceeds 3,500 kg
(D) Motor vehicles used for the carriage of passengers and
having more than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat.
(E) Combinations of vehicles of which the drawing vehicle is in
a category or categories for which the driver is licensed (B and /or D),
but which are not themselves in that category or categories
